Warm weekend

In true two-year-old-fashion, Nolan, Luke and their cousin Jake got into a bag of charcoal over the weekend at a family party. There were adults outside with them, but if you turn your back for one minute, you never know what you’ll turn back around and find!

Seriously, look at the elation on his face!

Luke barely had any charcoal on him, but Nolan and Jake were covered.

Justin had a pretty busy weekend with a bachelor party in NYC on Saturday, then tickets to the Flyers/Penguins playoff game for Sunday afternoon. The boys and I spent the weekend together watching Toy Story, playing at the park, visiting with Mom Mom & Aunt Christa and attending a birthday party. The weather was GORGEOUS and it’s really making me long for summer.

On Monday, the warm trend continued, so we went to the zoo. A zoo membership and season passes to Sesame Place, for our family, are worth every penny.

By the time we made it back home that afternoon, the thermostat inside our house read 84 degrees. It was blazing hot, so we grilled dinner and played with Luke and Nolan in the yard.

I'm now on the hunt for a swing set that will fit in our small back yard. We'd like a wood set because they look nice and the slides are longer than the plastic and metal sets, but they're HUGE and we don't have a whole lot of room to work with!

Big Boy Beds

So, we made the transition from cribs to toddler beds right after Christmas but I never took the time to blog about how everything went down. We didn’t go all out and re-paint the bedroom and spring for all new decorations and a “theme.” Instead, we just bought them some big boy beds.

You can still see the trunk of the Divorce Tree on their wall. If the boys only knew.

The first night that we put the boys to sleep in their toddler beds, they were a little unsettled – especially Luke. He cried and told me he wanted his crib back. It took a little bit of soothing, but they fell asleep rather quickly and without any major drama.

Same thing happened the following night with Luke wanting his crib, but again, they fell asleep and it’s been great ever since.

Of course, now things have gotten a little tougher. There are nights when it takes some time for them to settle down and either Justin or I will need to go into their room and put their mattresses back on their beds or clean help them put their books back onto the shelf, but for the most part, it’s pretty smooth sailing!

Nolan has been taken a keen interest in the clothing that he wears lately. It first began with him wanting to pick out his t-shirt then grew to him rejecting the entire outfit I picked out for him and heading into his closet to choose what he would rather wear.

Justin went to a bachelor party last night for our future brother-in-law, so the boys and I were paid a visit by Aunt Christa and Mom Mom. Aunt Christa’s wedding is 4 weeks away and she brought the suits that the boys will be wearing for the event. Nolan admired himself in the mirror and told us he was “going to work like daddy.” Okaaaaaay.

When he woke up this morning, the first words out of his mouth were, “I want to wear the opposite shirt.” Naturally, I had no clue what that meant and it took 5 minutes of him crying, “I want to wear my black opposite shirt.” I finally figured out that he wanted to wear the pinstriped vest (which is navy) and the blue button down shirt. He was pretty angry with me once I told him we had to save it for the wedding.

We compromised and I put him in another button down shirt that’s entirely way too small for him. He’s still wearing his pajama pants, by the way.

P.S. In his hands, he's carrying around his prized light-up Buzz Lightyear. Hew got it while in Disney and it's barely left his side since.

Hello Again!

I’ve received several emails inquiring about our family since I haven’t posted since our February Disney vacation. Thank you to those who were concerned! We haven’t fallen off the face of the Earth but have been keeping very busy.

In March, my best friend got engaged so Justin, the boys and I headed down to Cape May, NJ to celebrate with her and her family. It was Nolan & Luke’s first time on the beach this year!

Nolan and Luke will turn 3 in June so, as with all other boys this age, they are full of energy and opinions. They’re like little Vikings and can destroy their bedroom in 3.4 seconds. My couch cushions? They think that they are their “pirate boat” and any time my back is turned, those cushions are off the couch and on the floor.

“Get those cushions back on the couch, boys,” I’ll say. “But mommy, it’s our pirate boat and we need them.” Oy.

They play together so well and have really been using their imaginations to invent their own games.

Both of them are still napping for 2 - 3 hours every day and have a bed time of 8:00 p.m. They haven't budged from their 27lb and 30lb weights. I went to Old Navy this past weekend and spent a small fortune on summer clothes. Luke is in a 2T pant, Nolan is a 3T in pants, but 2T for shorts. Luke is in a 3T shirt and Nolan is in a 3T or 4T shirt depending on the style.

Potty training has been hit or miss with Luke. He'll do it when he feels like it but Nolan wants nothing to do with the potty. Once the weather gets warmer, I'm going to have them forego pants around the house and concentrate on getting them to actually begin using the potty every day.

I'm still working 3 days a week in the city and am home with the boys for 4 days. I've been growing my photography business and things have been going well for me. I've been photographing families, babies and engaged couples and have 2 weddings booked for this year.

Justin and I have a little getaway planned with friends in the beginning of June which I'm looking forward to. After that, we'll be having a pirate-themed 3rd Birthday Party for the boys. We have season passes to Sesame Place and The Philadelphia Zoo that we will continue to use - just like last summer.
