You Can Never Start Too Early

I mentioned earlier this week that I've begun thinking about Nolan and Luke's first birthday party. Once upon a time, I would have turned up my nose at the prospect of someone planning a big big first birthday party for their child, who won't even remember the event. Well , I'm a mom now and I am having a great time looking at invitations, cakes, decorations, birthday onesies...I could go on and on. I'm in full-on party mode.

I have gotten a few eye rolls when I mentioned to friends that I was starting birthday preparations, but one can never be too ready! Besides, they all know I'm a planner and June is a tricky month with my sister's high school graduation and other birthday parties. We have a date all set though!

I believe that the first birthday is more of a celebration for the parents then the baby. After all, the my boys won't have any clue what is going on. We will celebrate the fact that Justin & I survived and thrived in our first year of being parents! Were you really excited about your baby's first birthday party?

It's the boys & I one year ago!

I REALLY miss this belly...

We Are Snowed In...Again!

It's snowing....again! Daddy had to go away again for business this week, which meant that it should have just been the three of us at home during the "Snowicane," which is what the media is calling it.

Luckily Grammy & Aunt Danielle came to spend a few days with us so that I can get out of the house to do things like shovel! Plus, it's nice to have adults to talk to while I'm snowed-in!

It has been a very busy week for me, both at home and at work. I wish that there were just an extra 4 hours in the day. I really feel like I could get everything accomplished if I just had a little more time. Being a mother should be an Olympic Sport ;-)

Speaking of mothers, it's my mom -- Grammy!

School has been cancelled, so Aunt Danielle was able to come spend a few days too!

Having fun while the snow is falling!

Can we go out & play?

He Is A Travelin' Man

Sweet Nolan,

You certainly are keeping Mommy, Daddy, Luke and Tank on their toes. It all started with crawling. We thought it was so cute!

You then started pulling yourself up on things. How sweet! Now, you've gotten very brave and you travel from thing to thing. You'll pull yourself up on the chair, then you'll spot your brother sitting next to the chair and you'll climb on him. Sometimes you take a little tumble, but you recover very nicely. You're such a big boy!

This is fun to play with, but I spot Mommy's cell phone sitting on the couch!
I will just make my way over to the couch....almost there...
Ummm, Mom, I just made my way over here to chew on your phone.
Why did you take it away?
Do you not understand the implications of taking electronic devices away from boys?!
Here is one of Nolan's most favorite activities:
lying under Luke while he's bouncing. They're actually playing together with the same toy and neither one is crying!

8 Months old

My boys are eight months old today!!!

They're eight months old and I'm starting to plan for their birthday party in June. I feel like a crazy person for even typing that. I always wondered why people would care so much about their child's first birthday party when their children won't even remember it! Clearly I had these thoughts before I had my very own children because I really do care about their first birthday. More on this in another post for another day.

My sweet boys are eight months old and our house is getting louder by the minute. There is a lot of talking and screeching going on which is cute at the moment, but I can just imagine how loud it will be in the coming months.

The jealousy has started and it breaks my heart. Nolan can feed himself his bottle, so I usually lay him on the floor with pillows and I sit with Luke on the couch & feed him because he has shown no interest in holding his bottle. Sometimes it's okay, but there are times when Nolan gets SO jealous and he comes over & cries & pulls on my pant legs. So sad.

This morning, at nap time, I picked Nolan up off the floor, kissed him & began walking up the steps to his nursery. Luke just about had a panic attack when I picked Nolan up. You would think I deprive them of hugs & kisses!!

- can say DaDa
- knows his name
- crawls, climbs, pulls himself up on things (like Luke)
- can stand in a triangle (with his feet on the floor, butt in the air & hands on the ground)
- can go from laying to sitting
- Has gone back to only eating bottles. I'm lucky if I can get him to eat a quarter of a yogurt a day.
- has the most beautiful smile. he's such a happy baby!
- has been sleeping through the night
- says Mum Mum Mum Mum
- knows his name
- has just started rolling both ways, but hasn't figured out that he can roll across the room to get to his toys.
- eats like a champ. he'll eat an entire bottle, plus 1 to 2 jars of food in a sitting.
- has the most adorable laugh!
- sleeps through the night

Please vote for us :-) Just one little click is all it takes! I swear, that's it!

My Inadequate Road Block

Last night, I was cleaning the kitchen & dining room which needed to be mopped, so I blocked off that space from the living room, where the boys were playing with daddy. I didn't want them to crawl around on the wet floor. (the runner that goes in front of my sink is piled up on the right.)

Apparently my barricade wasn't good enough.

I heard Justin calling for me, "Honey, you've got to come check this out!"

I walk over and Nolan had evaded my road block!! I couldn't grab my camera quick enough to catch him crawling under the walker, but you can get the picture!

My blogger friend Jennifer has totally gotten me hooked on Swagbucks. I literally use it for just about every search I make online. I also used it to make purchases like I recently did at Kohls & Stub Hub which earns me 1 Swagbuck for every $5 I spent!

How it works is: you sign up for a Swagbuck account. Then you begin searching the web & earning Swagbucks which you can redeem for lots of different prizes. I'm personally loving the fact that I earn gift cards just by using Swagbucks to get to sites that I visit frequently like Facebook & Twitter!

Climbing Mt. Luke

Things are happening just way too fast for me. One minute they're rolling around, the next minute, Nolan starts crawling, and now he's beginning to pull himself up & climb on his brother.

I honestly can't imagine what it's going to be like when they're both crawling & climbing!

You can't really tell from the pictures, but that wicker box behind the boys has to be strategically placed in our living room to block out Nolan's favorite corner of the living room where he enjoys pulling on the window drapes.

Valentines Day Weekend

In years past, our Valentines Day consisted of a romantic dinner, a bottle of wine & alone time for Justin & I. This year, Valentines day was just a little different.
On Saturday night, Uncle Rick & Aunt Brenda came over and we had a delicious sushi dinner and watched the Olympics. It was a great night and I wouldn't have done it any differently!

Luke is entranced by Aunt Brenda
Uncle Ricky is a police officer and we plan on using that to our advantage when the boys get older...
The boys woke us at 7 a.m. on Valentines Day.
Justin & I grabbed our sweet little valentines from their cribs and we went to the kitchen to make breakfast.
After breakfast, we headed into the living room with our coffee to open gifts with Luke & Nolan.
They were mostly interested in playing with the bags & paper rather than their gifts!
Then, Justin & I shared our gifts for one another.

Valentines Day is all about love.
Our little guys are, by far, our greatest gifts of love.

Speaking of love: Nolan loves to rub his face on soft things, like our throw blanket.

I made a delicious dinner for Justin & I on Sunday night. We watched the Olympics & cuddled with each other and our sons.
It was our best Valentines Day yet.

BabyZilla Wants Ice Cream!

Apparently, I need to work on the concept of 'sharing' with the boys. I don't think they'll understand at this age, but I don't think it's ever too early to start.
Luke was sitting next to Grammy, who was eating a SkinnyCow ice cream bar. She gave Luke a little taste. He was so happy!! Nolan, who was across the room, decided he wanted to see what was making Luke such a happy boy. Luke was very upset!

Nolan = happy
Luke = not happy
Nolan: "let me taste the ice cream!"
Luke: "I don't want to share!"
Nolan couldn't get enough.

Okay. Let's try and give some more to Luke.
Oh wait, Nolan's coming for it!!!

Nolan attacks the ice cream bar!
Luke is not happy!
Phew, I got another taste!
BabyZilla wants ice cream!!

But he has to share with Luke.
The End.

He Loves Trouble

Operation Baby-Proofing has begun at my house, but I think we need to start working on Grammy's house. There is one step that leads from the family room to the kitchen and Nolan LOVES the step. There's nothing we can do to keep him away!

There isn't a baby gate set up yet (but there will be this week!), so I blocked it off with two baskets. It doesn't prevent him from trying to go down the step, but it slows him down a little. He could spend an hour going down this little step, but someone has to help him go up!

Friday Favorite

It's easy to sometimes dwell on the negative, so every Friday I reflect on my favorite moments from the past week!
My favorite moments this week all included my mom & sister. We had A LOT of time together because of the storm, but it was definitely welcomed and FUN time!

Snowmageddon continued

Good news: Justin is currently flying home!!

I mentioned in my previous post that the boys & I have spent the week holed up at my mom's house who lives about 20 minutes away from me.
Philadelphia is made up of hundreds of little neighborhoods. Despite the fact that it's a huge city, living in one of these neighborhoods can make you feel like you live in Small Town, USA, where everyone knows your name and your entire family history. Sometimes, it's a great feeling to be surrounded by so many familiar faces, other times, it's just exhausting.

I moved out of this neighborhood when I was 23 and I moved to a section of the city that was a complete mystery to me. I knew just a few people there, but had grown to love the area just from visiting them. Justin & I decided that it was the perfect place to start our life together.

Now, one thing I have to admit, when it snows -- there's nothing like being in Bridesburg, which is where I grew up. Practically my entire family still lives there, so when the snow starts to fall, everyone walks over to my mom's house and we eat, talk, drink and sometimes play in the snow. I remember being young and when my cousin still lived here before moving to New Hampshire, we would hop on the quads and drive through the streets -- such a great time! Sledding was just as much fun and we had quite a few hills there that were fun to ride.

This was Luke & Nolan's first snow storm in my old neighborhood. There weren't too many people out when mom & I took them outside, but it was fun nonetheless!

My mom didn't have any baby sleds that had sides, so we improvised! Put the baby in a laundry basket & use the dog's leash to pull him! They had loads of fun!!!

Snowmageddon (while Justin is away, naturally)

Justin left for business on Monday and was supposed to fly back to Philly today, but guess what happened?!!?

Grammy shoveling during a short break in the snow
The entire city knew the storm was coming, but I was in denial. I hoped that despite the warning, Justin would still be able to make it home today. Fat chance!

Luckily, Nolan, Luke & I packed our bags on Monday morning and went to stay with my mom during the storm. We woke this morning to about 7 inches of snow on the ground. Justin is stuck in Atlanta, but hopefully he'll make it home before Friday!
