Vacation Preparation

I'm going to be scarce in the coming week because we're going on vacation! Yes, even the little guys. Ocean City, MD, here we come! I have been packing for days. The boys alone have 2 duffel bags plus their pack n play, stroller, beach tent, travel swing...I could go on. It's insane. I know that it probably won't be a very relaxing vacation, but we love being at the beach so hopefully that makes up for it!

Last year's beach trip!
Eating Curly's Fries on the boardwalk -- yummmm!!

Since we went back to our original sleep ritual, things have been much better in the sleep department for mom & dad. The boys have been great the whole time, but we drove ourselves a little insane when we tried to let each boy wake on his own terms at night. We went back to waking the second baby at night when his brother woke up to eat. They've been going 4 1/2 to 5 hours between feedings at night, which means we usually get a 3 1/2 to 4 hour sleep stretch. Sometimes I have to wake in between feedings to comfort and offer a paci when one of the little guys get fussy, but it's not too bad!

It's back to work for me when we return from vacation. I am actually really excited about it. I love my job and I love the people I work with. I know I will miss the little guys during the day, but they'll be with my mom which is a comfort to me, plus it'll be nice to actually wake up in the morning and put on something pretty and go to work and have lunch with my friends. I'll be working three days a week and will be with the boys for four consecutive days. I think that's a good compromise!

...can't wait to put my babies' feet in the sand!!
I hope everyone has a lovely week and a great Labor Day Weekend!! God Bless!

Professional Pictures

Joy and Kevin from Spark Photography came out a couple of weeks ago to take pictures of the boys. They shot our wedding and we absolutely LOVE them! There are a ton of pictures, but here are a few of the ones I like...

Random update on the boys

We had a lovely weekend with family and friends, but it's back to reality this morning. Luke and Nolan typically wake up around 7 to 8 then they have their morning bottle. After they get dressed we usually move on to the activity mat. They usually spend about 15 to 20 minutes on their mat before they grow bored. While they're on the mat, I take the opportunity to wash last night's bottles then prepare new bottles for the day. Each boy usually takes 7 bottles a day...sometimes 8 (they're drinking 5 1/2 ounces). We only have 12 of the 8oz Dr. Brown's bottles, so I wash them in batches: in the morning and late afternoons. I should just pick up an extra pack of bottles which would probably make life much easier! At them moment, they're going through one and a half of the large cans of formula a week!
Sometimes they take a morning nap for a half hour to an hour if I'm lucky. They usually nap in the Pack 'n Play, bouncy chair or swing, which happens to be Nolan's favorite. I take that opportunity to start a load of laundry and get some other chores done. They also take their afternoon naps there too. I should probably try to transition them to their cribs just so they get used to it, but they don't have set nap times yet so I'm not sure how to do it exactly. Do I put pick them up once they're asleep and put them in the nursery, or do I wait until they're around 4 months and start putting them up while they're awake, but tired? Decisions, decisions.

Since they've been awake so much, I've noticed that they're more "talkative." There's a lot of cooing going on and I'm loving it!

I've also noticed that the boys seem to fuel eachother with the crying. Both of them could be perfectly happy and content hanging out on the activity mat, then one will start whining, which starts his brother with whining then crying. Once I calm one baby, the other will automatically calm himself. I'm guessing this happens with other twins as well?

I mentioned that the boys were pretty cranky in the evenings from around 6 to 9. Last night actually wasn't too terrible and they both went down into their cribs pretty easily. Justin has a fantasy football draft tonight, so I will be putting the boys to sleep on my own. I'm hoping they treat me well!

Luke has been blowing bubbles and being a little drooly. He's only two months, so he's not teething (I ran my finger over his gums just to check), so I'm not too sure why he's doing this.

Last week, Nolan was really struggling to poo. He wasn't crying from pain or anything, but his face would get very red and he strained to get it out. It may be a little TMI, but it was also a lot harder than it previously was. His pedi suggested that I give him an ounce of apple juice to loosen him up. I did it a few times last week and it did work, but I think it made him very gassy so I discontinued it. Well, I noticed today that he was starting to struggle again this morning. I'm going to try an ounce of apple juice again, but if it makes him gassy, I'm going to give up on it and call the pedi again.

Just as a side note, Luke has been happily playing on the activity mat now for over an hour! That never happens! Nolan has transitioned to his swing and he's taking a nap :)

Picture Post -- Sunday

The summer weather in Philadelphia has been strange. It seems like it's cloudy or rainy every weekend. This was the first weekend where we were actually able to swim in the pool on a Sunday!
The boys hung out on the deck in their SPF 50 tent!

Nolan didn't like the water.
Don't worry, we only dipped his feet in and put him back in the shade.

We don't want the fun to end!!

One Happenin' Saturday Night!!

My goodness, how our weekends have changed since we became parents! Last night our friends Melissa and Eric came over with their niece Cloie. Now, just a year ago, it would have been entirely different. We would have had some drinks, played a board game or Wii and hung out until around 2 a.m. This time around, with a little girl and two infant boys, it wasn't quite like it used to be!
We should have known because for the past week, from about 6 to 9, the boys have been pretty cranky. It's not pretty. Justin and I sit there and look at eachother and pray for a smooth bedtime!

Overall it was a nice night. It didn't last late into the night as it once would have, but just spending a couple of hours with our friends is a great night in our eyes!! Cloie was so energetic, but very good! It makes me excited for the day when my boys will be her age! She colored a picture for us which is hanging on our refrigerator. Nolan was very cranky, but he's no match for Aunt Melissa who held him and sung him crazy songs from our grade school days. I held Luke in my lap for quite a while. He wasn't terribly cranky at that point.
We fed the boys a bottle at 8:30 then put them in their cribs at 9. Melissa, Eric and Cloie left then :( Justin and I went to bed at 9:30. You read that right. 9:30 on a Saturday night! We were pooped. The little guys slept from 9 until 2:15 though!! That's 5 hours and 15 minutes! Hopefully this continues, but I'm not going to hold my breath.
For old time's sake...

2 Months Old

Luke and Nolan are two months old today and what an incredible two months it's been! The little guys have grown so much but I don't have exact numbers because their two month well checkup isn't until mid-September. I'm excited to find out their growth stats, but not about the shots!

Nolan is happiest in the morning (just like his momma) and gives me most of his smiles during this time. He absolutely loves to sit up; preferably while being held one someone's lap! He isn't terribly fond of bath time, but usually calms down after he's been in the warm water for a bit.

Luke is still as squirmy as ever! He's only sitting still when he's asleep! He may be punting for the Eagles someday because the boy has a strong kick! I would know, he's always getting me in the ribs when I feed him. He also has a mean grip and has found out that he likes mommy's hair. I wish he didn't like it!

They're both changing every day! When I lift Nolan out of the crib in the morning, I'm always impressed by how solid and heavy he's becoming. Luke being hooked up to a feeding tube in the NICU seems like eons ago. He eats like a champ on his own now!
Mommy loves to torture us!!

You guys are seriously loved!

We Love Mom Mom & Poppy!!

One of my favorite things is when Mom and Dad V come for dinner. We always end up having a great time and they almost always bring my favorite dessert. Yum!! They don't just come for adult dinner, they come for baby dinner too!

Luke loves his Mom Mom!
I don't know what it is, but Poppy has the magic touch with Nolan. The little guy could be screaming and all poppy has to do is pick him up, walk around the house and sing him his special song and Nolan calms down immediately. Justin told him that we're going to buy him a pager and page him when he's needed in the middle of the night!

Aren't grandparents the best?!

Lucky little guys!!

Design Dazzle ~ Nursery

Hello again, I just found out that the boys' nursery was featured on Design Dazzle. Check the site out if you get a chance. There are loads of nursery inspiration pictures and I'm delighted that our nursery is included!

Picture Post -- our morning together

Since the boys are currently sleeping, I should be doing something constructive like working out or taking a nap, but I'm a glutton for punishment. Here are some pictures from my morning with the boys.

Bottle time! It's a good thing I have very long fingers...it helps when trying to hold two bottles!
Luke -- he's finally growing hair! You can't tell from this picture, but it's growing and it's very blonde.
Nolan The boys helped me make the bed. Tank helped too!
They're transfixed by Tank!! They wouldn't take their eyes off of him!
Happy Luke!
